Bitter melon (karela)

Karela, is a climbing shrub that typically grows in countries with tropical climates. It is considered the most bitter of all fruits which helps increase the secretion of digestive enzymes and aids in overall digestion. This fruit naturally contains an insulin called polypeptide-P, which has shown to help lower blood glucose levels. It is rich in iron, contains twice the beta-carotene of broccoli, twice the calcium of spinach, and twice the potassium of bananas.

Karela Used as a tonic, stimulant, and laxative, and recommended in treating gout, rheumatism, various liver diseases, and psoriasis. It also helps reduce blood sugar, cholesterol, and high triglyceride levels.
